Almost all workers knew about tools like ChatGPT as of March, but only 35.9 per cent employed them, according to data from Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey (LFS). Among those that did, 63.5 per cent were using them for some but not most of their tasks. (The Logic)
Talking point: Canada’s pace of AI adoption remains a very hot topic, with policymakers, economists and technology boosters worried that the country will miss out on possible productivity gains by going too slow. Numbers on uptake range widely. Company-level data suggests it’s low for small business and relatively high for corporate Canada. AI giants OpenAI and Anthropic, meanwhile, say Canadians are power users of their products, with high adoption rates compared to even other advanced economies. StatCan’s latest release is a few months out of date, but it’s based on the LFS, among the most thorough datasets on the Canadian workforce.
