Talking point: Once considered a contender to upset Bitcoin as the world’s most valuable blockchain, Ethereum has struggled over the past year. The price of its native crypto token, ether, has risen, but fell short of the huge gains seen by bitcoin and newer competitor solana in 2024. However, Ethereum is often the blockchain of choice for the traditional finance sector, which has been increasingly embracing crypto. It’s the most popular blockchain for issuing crypto versions of U.S. treasuries and hosts projects from BlackRock and UBS. Marketing Ethereum as the most secure and well-tested place for Wall Street to experiment with crypto could help the blockchain regain its edge.
