The two organizations will be able to share researchers and information, under a memorandum of understanding that U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and U.K. Technology Secretary Michelle Donelan signed in Washington, D.C., late Monday. (The Logic)
Talking point: At the U.K. AI Safety Summit in November, the two countries each announced plans for an institute to assess models; Monday’s deal formalizes their cooperation. London has secured commitments from eight AI developers including Google, Meta and OpenAI to provide access to their technology for testing. Innovation Minister François-Philippe Champagne has said Ottawa is considering its own institute, and Donelan told The Logic in January that the U.K. would share information about testing and results with Canada. At the signing, Raimondo said she expected more deals like this, creating “a global network of AI safety.”
