Talking point: MDF is the latest tech firm to announce another round of layoffs, as many companies in the sector impose cost-cutting measures amid the downturn. MDF cut about 70 people from its global headcount two months ago, in response to “macroeconomic conditions and shifting client priorities.” It had also reduced staff through the sale of its subsidiary InterTrade. At the time, the Investissement Québec-backed company said the total reduction represented about 19 per cent of its workforce. According to website layoffs.fyi, at least 1,480 tech workers at Canadian firms have lost their jobs since the start of the year, with a majority of those layoffs made in January.
