The entrepreneur and investor is returning to the workforce early next year, after stepping down as CEO of carbon-capture startup Deep Sky in May. “Three months away and all I could think of was helping startups,” Steel said in a LinkedIn post Monday. (The Logic)

Talking point: Steel, who worked with OMERS Ventures for 13 years before taking the helm at Deep Sky in August 2023, said Whitecap Venture Partners will begin raising its sixth fund next year. The Toronto-based venture and private equity firm spun out from the family office of Ephraim Diamond, who made his fortune in real estate as the original CEO of Cadillac Fairview. The firm manages over $400 million in assets across five funds, and its portfolio includes Deep Sky, healthtech company Felix and logistics startup GoBolt.
