AWS Supply Chain is an application within the Amazon Web Services cloud-computing suite that promises to ingest data from existing goods-management systems and return “actionable insights to help businesses optimize supply chain processes and improve service levels.” (The Logic)
Talking point: The machine-learning algorithms under AWS Supply Chain’s hood are trained on nearly 30 years of Amazon’s accumulated data on managing its e-commerce inventories, the company said, and will offer suggestions for heading off potential excesses and shortages. As resiliency replaces efficiency as the watchword in supply-chain management, multiple companies have begun offering similar products—such as Shopify-backed Flexport, which hired its new CEO away from Amazon’s consumer division earlier this year. Initially available as a preview in three of AWS’s service regions (not including Canada’s), Amazon promised to offer AWS Supply Chain more widely soon.
