Amazon previously let go of 10,000 workers in November and another 18,000 in January from the retail, HR and devices departments. Jassy said the company announced these cuts separately because not all teams had completed their evaluations by last fall. Amazon isn’t the only Big Tech company to lay off thousands this year; Alphabet and Microsoft shed 12,000 and 10,000 employees, respectively, in January. Last week, Meta cut 10,000 workers and closed 5,000 job openings.
