Talking point: A common fund could reduce some of the costs associated with investing in smaller assets in the country, said Poloz. The federal government tapped him in April to lead consultations on how to increase institutional investing in Canada. Ottawa had previously considered a pooled-capital fund involving pensions specifically to boost more investment in cleantech projects. The Logic reported last week that Toronto-based asset-management giant Brookfield has recently proposed a $50-billion fund for Canadian assets, which would include $36 billion from pension funds and $10 billion from the federal government.
