Talking point: Mayor Scott Gillingham noted that the investment will both modernize the city’s transit fleet and support local jobs, as the bus-maker struggles through a supply-chain shortage. On Dec. 23, it announced a non-binding commitment from the Manitoba government for a $50-million debt facility, as well as a US$50-million debt facility with up to US$100 million in credit from Export Development Canada. Manitoba officials said the financing would help NFI take advantage of a rise in public investments in zero-emissions transit. In October, the company cut its vehicle-delivery forecast after critical suppliers missed deadlines.
