The British Columbia shipbuilder signed a memorandum of understanding with Westinghouse Electric Co. to provide pipes and steel structures for the nuclear company’s large and small reactors, Seaspan senior vice-president Dave Hargreaves said in a statement that the company’s experience in custom metal fabrication is useful in “adjacent markets” like nuclear plants. Talking point: The Westinghouse nuclear business is now owned by Toronto-based Brookfield and Saskatchewan uranium miner Cameco, and is competing with AtkinsRéalis to build new power plants in Canada. Westinghouse senior vice-president Elias Gedeon told The Logic in an interview that it’s expanding its network of Canadian suppliers to feed its sales domestically and abroad, thanks to a combination of their experience supporting existing nuclear plants and government export financing.
