The Brookfield-controlled atomic energy company said it has new memorandums of understanding to buy reactor components and construction-related services from Curtiss-Wright Nuclear Canada, E.S. Fox of Ontario and Velan of Montreal. (The Logic)

Talking point: Westinghouse Electric is implicitly competing with Candu maker AtkinsRéalis for the first major new nuclear build in Canada in a generation, at Ontario’s Bruce Nuclear Generating Station, and also seeking more customers for its AP1000 nuclear reactor abroad. Each such unit sold outside Canada could mean $1 billion for Canada’s GDP, its announcement of the new agreements said. (Velan, for one, sees opportunity either way, as a public backer of AtkinsRéalis’s “Canadians for Candu” campaign.) Brookfield acquired Westinghouse Electric Co. out of bankruptcy in 2018 and now shares ownership with Saskatchewan uranium company Cameco.
