The Vancouver-based recruitment firm launched a campaign last week to help place Ukrainian developers trying to flee the war-torn country at tech firms abroad. So far 95 candidates are seeking placements, and 30 to 40 employers in Canada and Europe have signed up to hire candidates, said Ilya Brotzky, CEO of VanHack. (The Logic)
Talking point: “There’s a lot of interest, but the challenge will be if we can actually make these hires and relocate them,” Brotzky told The Logic. He said many of the recruits are men who are required to stay in the country and fight against Russian troops. Just 18 candidates were women, as of Monday morning. He said companies may choose to hire men and have them work remotely to start. Still, candidates will have to go through the standard visa process, which could take months. The federal government said it will prioritize Ukrainian visa applications, but it hasn’t waived requirements.
