Talking point: The deal is reportedly valued at more than $100 million, according to The Globe and Mail. Founder and CEO Michael Gilbert said he’s in talks for more acquisitions and expects that Semios can get more than $100 million from investors, including Morningside Group, which led its $102-million funding round in February 2020. In June, Seimos acquired Centricity, an American firm that developed a suite of field-data collection applications, as well as Altrac, an American agriculture-automation platform, in a separate deal. Canada has been a laggard in agtech, but companies have recently been making moves in the space. Winnipeg-based Farmers Edge went public in March, and Telus launched an agriculture division in November 2020 that’s expected to follow the go-public path set by Telus International.
