Gadze Finance, which Mike Silagadze is launching in partnership with mobile-coupon app Checkout 51 founder Andrew McGrath, is designed to “generate predictable returns while minimizing risk to investors” in the buzzy world of decentralized finance. (The Logic)
Talking point: Add Silagadze to the growing list of big names jumping into DeFi, a term used to describe a collection of high-risk, high-reward activities that are recreating the infrastructure of the financial system on Ethereum and other blockchains. Gadze Finance is backed by two Canadian investors known for making heavy-hitting crypto bets: Boris Wertz of Vancouver’s Version One and Som Seif of Purpose Financial. The fund is based in the Cayman Islands instead of Canada “because the regulatory environment in Canada is unclear and risky,” Silagadze said in a release. In addition to the US$25 million under management, the fund raised US$1.6 million in equity financing, with the intent to grow to US$100 million or more in the next six months.
