The telco giant announced that it will bring the Canadian Premier League to mobile devices through the Telus Sports app, calling it a “fully-immersive sports metaverse.” Fans can watch soccer matches, toggling in real-time between as many as eight different camera angles. (The Logic)
Talking point: This is the first time Telus has dipped its toe into the metaverse, which a recent McKinsey report predicted could generate up to US$5 trillion by 2030. The pilot is a partnership between the telco, Silicon Valley live sports streaming startup YBVR and audio-visual production company Mediapro. In addition to the app, fans can watch games on their web browsers, or on select Android TVs for Telus subscribers via Optik TV and Pik TV in Alberta, B.C. and Quebec. Although matches can be viewed in real time, Telus has disabled the ability to watch replays on browsers.
