Talking point: Tesla’s presence is growing in Canada and Quebec is building its case for a piece of it. The automaker is setting up a battery-equipment plant in Markham, Ont., the mayor said last week, adding to its two manufacturing facilities and three research and development centres here. Canada is home to top battery researchers and designers that work with Tesla, and some of its smaller suppliers like Martinrea. In Quebec, Le Journal noted that suppliers include Verbom and Piedmont Lithium. Le Journal reported Quebec City is in ongoing talks with Tesla, after the company began urging the city three years ago to invest in the battery sector. It’s not the only province touting its battery metals, as Alberta and Ontario launch their own campaigns.
