Talking point: The two were the toast of the Canadian Media Producers Association conference in Ottawa, where they expressed their support for the law, which forces foreign streaming services like American giants Netflix and Amazon to pay five per cent of their Canadian revenue to fund Canadian content. Streaming giants are fighting the order in federal court, and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said the law discriminates against American tech and media firms. Culture Minister Marc Miller was questioned on stage about comments he made to The Logic about his willingness to be flexible with the Online Streaming Act and other efforts to regulate the internet in light of the trade talks. He told the conference the money the bill is expected to generate is indispensable.
