A spokesperson for Identity and Culture Minister Marc Miller said the talks are “nothing new,” as the government has been in discussion with Meta since it first developed the Online News Act. (The Logic, The Globe and Mail)
Talking point: The Logic was first to report that the government was in discussion with Meta about potential changes to bring news back to the platforms, citing two sources with knowledge of the talks. At the time, the minister’s office wouldn’t comment on the talks, but said the government had “no intention” of changing the Online News Act or its regulations. In The Globe and Mail on Wednesday, Miller’s director of communications confirmed that talks were underway, but said the government hasn’t made any decisions.
