The startups include a range of companies from across the country, including Arkangel AI, Bridge7 and ProteinQure, which use AI and machine learning to tackle disease detection and treatment; Kitchener, Ont.-based virtual learning platform LumenEd; Halifax- and Toronto-based Curv, a digital platform for prescriptions; dog-food delivery startup Kabo; and Semios, a Vancouver-based agtech company. Talking point: The three-month Google for Startups Accelerator program, originally planned to be held in-person in Kitchener-Waterloo, was first announced in February. In June, Google said the accelerator would be held virtually. Ashley Francisco, head of startup developer ecosystems at Google Canada, told The Logic the program received hundreds of applications, but chose startups that would benefit from “Google’s technical advisorship and mentorship” and that represented “the diversity of Canada’s geography and industry.” Francisco said the program will offer “deep dives and workshops for product design, customer acquisition, marketing and leadership development” tailored to each startup to help them achieve their goals. The program will run from September 8 to November 27; participants will be able to attend a demo day to meet investors.
