The Kitchener, Ont.-based tech firm is buying St. Paul, Minnesota-based GTT, which provides technology to cut emergency response times and prevent emergency-vehicles from crashing at intersections. GTT reported about US$40 million in revenue last year. Mark Maybank, co-founder and managing partner of Maverix, said in a press release that “challenges around urban mobility will be solved by data, not asphalt.” John Ruffolo, Maverix founder and managing partner, wrote in a LinkedIn post that Miovision could become critical to Canada after the “Sidewalk Labs fiasco” showed that smart cities pose an opportunity that is “both huge and terrifying at the same time if you don’t get it right.”
