Talking point: San Antonio was the most dependent on exports to Canada among 41 American cities, with nearly half its goods destined for the northern border, researchers at the council’s Business Data Lab found. Trade with Canada helps power the city’s automotive, aerospace and petroleum refining industries, making it particularly exposed to Canadian counter-tariffs. Detroit ranked second, thanks to the auto industry’s integrated supply chain with Canada. Kansas City, Mo., in third place, is also home to a large auto-assembly plant and sends about 40 per cent of its goods to Canada, including chemicals and food. The chamber estimates more than a million U.S. jobs depend on businesses that export to Canada. North of the border, Saint John, N.B., Calgary and Windsor are likely to be hardest hit by the trade war, according to the chamber.
