Talking point: The report’s findings come as many Canadian companies seek to settle on post-pandemic work arrangements. John Duda, president of real estate management services at Colliers Canada, said that while people have privacy to get work done from home, there might be constant distractions at an open-plan office. “Our space where we work matters,” he said. The report also said that Vancouver and the Greater Toronto Area have some of the longest and most expensive commutes in Canada—and they are also cities where workers spend less time in person. Duda said larger companies may consider building satellite offices closer to where workers live to increase attendance. “It’s the combination of things, and they add up to a decision.”
