The Vancouver-based company created the position, which will, among other things, “lead, shape, manage and drive our CSR and BCorp strategies,” according to the job posting. That includes maintaining and reporting on the company’s B Corporation certification and relationship. (The Logic)
Talking point: Certified B Corp, which doles out the status to companies that meet its standard of conducting business in a socially and environmentally friendly way, launched a review of Hootsuite’s certification in October after it received complaints that the social media-management company had entered into a contract with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Hootsuite backed out of the deal after employee backlash. The person whose tweets publicly revealed the contract later alleged she was let go from the company; Hootsuite declined to comment, citing privacy. In early November, B Lab said it had not yet made a determination and would not comment on the case until it was resolved. It aims to complete reviews within 90 days of receiving a complaint and a more formal review, if necessary, within another 90 days. It did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday. About the new position, Henk Campher, vice-president of corporate marketing and head of social impact at Hootsuite, told The Logic, “As a B Corp we place a keen focus on our CSR strategy, and this position represents a further investment in our team and our social impact initiatives. If 2020 has proved anything, it is the need for companies to invest in their social impact and prove their value to society.”
