Talking point: Alphabet, the parent company of Google, has had a difficult time in the Chinese market. The company pulled its search engine out of China in 2010 due to government censorship rules and Translate was one of its last remaining products in the market. Last year, Yahoo and Microsoft’s LinkedIn shuttered their services in China as tech firms faced a more challenging operating environment amid the country’s wider regulatory crackdowns. China’s “zero-COVID” policy, which some experts expect to last until at least early 2023, has also hurt business sentiment among foreign businesses there.
