The settlement will end all disputes between Delivery Hero, the app’s parent company, and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), and provide financial compensation to couriers who lost their jobs when Foodora Canada abruptly exited the Canadian market in May. Talking point: CUPW has been challenging Foodora’s exit at the Ontario Labour Relations Board, claiming that the company’s decision to leave was tied to a landmark court ruling made two months earlier that gave couriers the right to unionize. In a statement, Ivan Ostos, a Foodora courier who helped lead the union drive, said he was “happy to see Foodora has acknowledged its workers deserve a settlement…. If employers believe it is not worthwhile to do business here, we will fight to make sure workers receive what they’re due.”
