The awareness campaign, titled “Choose More,” aims to convince consumers and small and mid-sized enterprises that they can benefit financially from data portability with open banking, and from lower-cost, faster payment options with a real-time payments system. (The Logic)
Talking point: The initiative comes amid uncertainty about the future of both open banking and the Real-Time Rail, a system intended to make it possible to instantly transfer money. The campaign encourages Canadians to “speak up and let their government know how the financial sector could serve them better,” according to a joint statement from Cathy Ly, vice-president of customer experience and digital banking operations at EQ Bank, and Faye Pang, head of Canada for Xero. Philippe Letarte, head of policy and public affairs at Montreal-based Flinks, told The Logic in an email that the country’s biggest fintechs, including Wealthsimple, EQ Bank, Wise, Flinks and Xero, were putting their own money and resources into the campaign.
