Talking point: After finding traction with mainstream users selling digital basketball cards, Dapper is now looking to replicate its Top Shot success in other global markets. The partnership with LaLiga, home to famous clubs like Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, involves producing digital collectibles similar to those it created for the NBA. The round—which valued the company at US$7.6 billion, according to TechCrunch—comes just six months after the Flow blockchain maker raised US$305 million in March. It also reflects growing interest in NFTs and blockchain-based gaming, as shown by large fundraisings by other companies like France’s Sorare and NFT marketplace OpenSea. The inclusion of Singapore’s GIC in the round is also noteworthy, given how blockchain games, such as Axie Infinity, which allows players to earn crypto, have exploded in popularity in Southeast Asia.
