Talking point: Musk is suing OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and president Greg Brockman to stop their push to convert the AI developer from a non-profit lab into a for-profit company, though the San Francisco-based firm did agree earlier this year to keep its non-profit in control. Canadian computer scientist Sutskever left OpenAI in May 2024 after participating in the short-lived coup that ousted Altman as CEO. He’s since started and raised billions for Safe Superintelligence, a new AI startup. But Musk’s lawyers argue that his testimony in their case may be coloured by his financial interest in OpenAI, so they deserve to know how large it is. The California judge dismissed Sutskever’s counter-argument that the financial details are private. He must also turn over something called “the Brockman memo,” which Musk’s lawyers hadn’t asked for before because everyone thought it was “self-deleting.”
