There were 299 mergers and acquisitions as of Feb. 26, 2024 worth a total of nearly US$15.4 billion, according to data from LSEG Data & Analytics, formerly known as Refinitiv. That’s up from 447 deals worth about US$7.4 billion at the same time last year. (The Logic)
Talking point: This follows a similar trend south of the border. In the U.S., M&A activity has totalled US$306.1 billion so far this year, according to LSEG’s data, up more than double from the previous year. The number of deals in the U.S. also dropped. Amid a frozen market for initial public offerings, M&A activity has been on the rise and industry observers expect there are still more deals to come.
