Talking point: ByteDance employees launched a probe, dubbed Project Raven, after BuzzFeed News reported in June that China-based workers at its parent company had looked into U.S. user data. That’s precisely what those staff then allegedly did, pulling up IP addresses for the targeted reporters and those with whom they were connected to try to identify TikTok workers who were speaking with the press. Thursday’s admission follows an investigation conducted by an external law firm. TikTok told Forbes the four employees in question are no longer employed there, calling their actions “misconduct.”
