Talking point: First American Nuclear began the review process with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission in April, so it has a long way to go before installing a reactor anywhere, but it’s working on a design that can generate 240 megawatts of electricity using spent fuel from larger nuclear plants. This deal is almost the mirror image of one that Canada’s Brookfield made last week with another grandly named American startup, The Nuclear Company, in which Brookfield-controlled Westinghouse provides the reactor technology and its partner does the rest.
