The B.C. Labour Relations Board has ordered the retail giant to extend pay bumps to some 800 workers at the unionized warehouse in Delta, B.C. (Canadian Press)
Talking point: Unifor western regional director Gavin McGarrigle said Amazon gave other workers wage increases between $2 and $3 an hour, plus free Prime memberships. The company said it believed the province’s labour law prevented it from adjusting compensation for employees at the Delta warehouse, which unionized last July. “We’re glad to be able to do that,” said Amazon spokeswoman Eileen Hards following the ruling. Unifor, which represents the Delta warehouse employees, filed two unfair labour practice complaints against Amazon in September, accusing the company of carrying out an intimidation campaign against unionized workers that included freezing their wages.
