Talking point: Attorney General Mark Dreyfus said the government is following advice from intelligence and security agencies and that the ban will come into effect “as soon as practicable.” TikTok rebuffed claims the app is a security risk, called the decision political and said Australia’s government did not respond to its offers of constructive engagement. In Canada, Treasury Board president Mona Fortier announced in late February the app would soon be removed from public-service controlled phones and unavailable for downloads. Meanwhile, the U.K.’s Information Commissioner’s Office fined TikTok £12.7 million after finding it processed children’s data without parental consent and “did not respond adequately” when concerns were raised with senior employees. TikTok said it disagrees with the decision.
