The Alberta Utilities Commission’s decision includes a two-page list of problems with Synapse’s proposal for a 1,000-megawatt data centre and a natural-gas plant to power it. Those include inadequate consultations with nearby residents, an environmental report that seems to be an unfinished draft and clues that Synapse didn’t include all its planned generating equipment. Synapse continues to say the Olds facility can be ready by mid-2026.
