The federal government is expected to appoint Tachjian, currently director of digital banking at PwC Canada, to spearhead its efforts to build an open banking system, two people familiar with the matter told The Logic. The news was first reported by The Globe and Mail. (The Logic, The Globe and Mail)
Talking point: Tachjian, a lawyer and digital banking expert, ran the government’s consultations with industry stakeholders in late 2020 around how Canada should design the system, sources told The Logic. His appointment is expected to be announced Tuesday. Tachjian and a spokesperson for associate finance minister Randy Boissonnault didn’t immediately respond to The Logic’s requests for comment. The appointment would address a key recommendation made by the federal government’s advisory committee on open banking. Preparations for the long-awaited appointment began as early as last summer, when officials from the Department of Finance started canvassing the industry for recommendations.
