Talking point: The Supreme Court acknowledged Congress’s “well-supported” national security concerns about TikTok’s relationship with China, and said a ban would not violate the First Amendment right to freedom of speech. The app can remain on American users’ phones on Sunday, but new users won’t be able to download it and updates won’t be available. TikTok is planning to redirect users who open the app to a website with information about the ban starting Sunday, Reuters reported. President-elect Donald Trump has promised to “save” TikTok by negotiating a deal, but it’s unclear what options he’ll have once he’s sworn in on Monday. TikTok has claimed the ban will cost small businesses more than US$1 billion in revenue and creators almost US$300 million in lost earnings in one month.
