The province’s pre-eminent economic development agency is pursuing a “bold new strategic direction,” according to a statement from chair Tony Williams announcing Kilcrease’s departure. Executive vice-president of impact Rollie Dykstra has also left, The Logic has learned. The organization said it will announce an interim CEO “in the coming days.” (The Logic)
Talking point: The departures follow an overhaul of the government-funded agency’s board since Williams was named chair in March. Five of the eight directors are new appointees. Kilcrease, a venture capitalist, joined Alberta Innovates after a career in Austin, Texas, helping the city diversify its economy beyond oil and gas. Alberta Innovates had a budget of more than $250 million last year for services like funding businesses, coaching entrepreneurs and providing research and testing facilities. “Changes in leadership are a natural part of any organization’s growth and evolution,” Williams said in a statement. “Additional perspectives, energy and skill sets will be integral to developing and implementing our next strategic plan on which work will begin immediately.”
