Talking point: Kauk joined Shopify in 2020 to lead the company’s carbon-removal strategy, a scheme to help commercialize nascent technologies through the purchase of verified carbon credits. She turned Shopify into one of the world’s largest private-sector buyers of carbon credits, building a $54-million portfolio through agreements with 39 carbon-removal tech companies. Earlier this month, The Logic put Kauk on its list of people to watch in cleantech. Kauk did not say what she would do next, but said the carbon-removal space “needs more buyers, more suppliers, more funding and more development to ensure that we scale safely and responsibly. Can’t wait to share what’s next.”
