U.S. law firm Edelson PC is filing additional suits on behalf of teachers, a principal and students who were in the B.C. school during the Feb. 10 attack but were not shot. The filings follow seven lawsuits against the company and its CEO filed in April on behalf of victims’ families. (TechCrunch)
Talking point: The firm filed three new claims in California on Wednesday and plans to file 30 in total. The first set of lawsuits alleged the AI company was negligent in failing to prevent the attack that left eight people dead, after its staff raised concerns about the shooter’s ChatGPT use leading up to it. The latest lawsuits build on those allegations by accusing OpenAI of aiding and abetting the shooting. Facing pressure from Ottawa, OpenAI pledged to lower its threshold for referring potentially dangerous users to police and establish a direct line with Canadian law enforcement. The B.C. government is still planning to take legal action against the company.
