Talking point: The provincial and federal governments estimate the deal is one of the largest Indigenous investments in a major infrastructure project in Canadian history, and the first time First Nations will be full equity partners in a nuclear project. The deal will let the First Nations—Alderville, Curve Lake, Hiawatha, Mississaugas of Scugog Island, Beausoleil, Chippewas of Georgina Island and Chippewas of Rama—benefit from long-term revenues for the project. It includes four new nuclear reactors expected to cost $20.9 billion and power about 1.2 million homes.
