The beleaguered fitness-equipment firm announced Tuesday it would make 2,800 workers redundant. On Thursday, Shopify CTO Allan Leinwand tweeted that the company would offer “a 48-hour turnaround on applications from anyone at Peloton.” (The Logic)
Talking point: Shopify is specifically pledging that its recruiters will conduct half-hour calls with any ex-Peloton staff that express interest in software-development jobs within two days of application. Last year, Shopify set a target of over 2,000 technical hires to double its development team. It went remote-first in May 2020, and subsequently hired several U.S.-based technical leaders including former Slack executive Leinwand and ex-Stitch Fix CTO Cathy Polinsky. The firm’s full-year filings, which it will release Wednesday, are likely to show a significant increase from the 7,000-plus employees and contractors it had on Dec. 30, 2020.
