Shopify hires former Stitch Fix CTO

Cathy Polinsky will be a vice-president on the engineering team led by CTO Jean-Michel Lemieux. The San Mateo, Calif.-based executive left Stitch Fix in September after a four-year tenure that included the personal styling platform’s November 2017 public offering. She’s previously worked for Salesforce, Oracle and Amazon. (The Logic)

Talking point: Shopify plans to recruit 2,021 people into new technical positions this year, doubling its engineering staff. Polinsky is the latest of the company’s top-level recruits who will be based in the U.S.—away from the firm’s Ottawa hometown, and Toronto and Waterloo hubs—which include executives poached from Facebook, PayPal and Adidas. In a tweet, she credited the company’s pandemic-promoted shift to a remote-first work model.
