Talking point: EQB had to launch a CEO search after Andrew Moor, who had held the top job since 2007, died unexpectedly last month. The bank had already started succession planning in anticipation of Moor’s impending retirement. Westlake knows EQB well, having led its corporate strategy, finance functions and legal affairs from 2020 to March 2025 and playing a key role in its $495 million acquisition of Concentra Bank in 2022. Westlake worked at Scotiabank for 18 years before joining EQB. In a release, Westlake said he is “intently focused on staying true to what makes EQB a force in Canadian banking.” Moor was known for championing innovation and increased competition in the concentrated sector.
