Talking point: Automakers have been forced to be strategic amid the prolonged chip scarcity. Tesla is reportedly considering advanced orders or even buying a semiconductor plant. A new report from McKinsey & Company said many firms now have “dedicated war rooms” with dashboards of supply chain data and semiconductor commitments. GM, for its part, previously told The Logic that it had been protecting its “hot-selling” full-size SUVs and pickup trucks from being impacted by the microchip shortage as it prepares to revamp its Oshawa, Ont. plant ahead of schedule.
