The move to halt payment services for TrafficJunky, the advertising portal owned by the Montreal-founded, Luxembourg-based pornography company MindGeek, comes after a U.S. District Court ruled Visa was potentially liable for child sexual abuse material on MindGeek-owned Pornhub. (The Logic)
Talking point: Visa and Mastercard suspended their services to Pornhub after a 2020 New York Times column said the site is “infested with rape videos.” Yet both credit-card giants continued to service TrafficJunky. As The Logic reported exclusively in February, TrafficJunky allowed advertisers to build campaigns around keywords including “13yearoldteen,” “not18,” “momdaughter” and other terms that imply illegal activity. “Visa condemns sex trafficking, sexual exploitation, and child sexual abuse. It is illegal, and Visa does not permit the use of our network for illegal activity,” Visa CEO Alfred Kelly wrote, while Mastercard said in a statement that it was “directing financial institutions to suspend acceptance of our products at TrafficJunky.”
