The digitally revived 1950s icon will star in Vietnam war film Finding Jack after production house Magic City Films bought the rights to Dean’s image from his family. Image Engine Design will work with South African VFX studio MOI Worldwide on the CGI. (Hollywood Reporter)
Talking point: Image Engine, an Academy Award-nominated studio with about 250 employees, has worked on a range of big-name titles, from “Game of Thrones” and Mulan to “Stargate SG-1” and “Lost in Space.” This isn’t the first instance of posthumous casting in modern filmmaking, though most previous examples involve an actor who died before being able to finish a shoot. That said, in 2013, candy manufacturer Mars created a CGI version of Audrey Hepburn for a commercial, and Dior had the digitally resurrected Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly and Marlene Dietrich exchange greetings with Charlize Theron in a perfume ad.
