Canada’s Enbridge, TC Energy and AltaGas are involved in three of the seven hydrogen projects sharing billions of dollars in U.S. subsidies announced earlier this month, U.S. Ambassador David Cohen said in an Ottawa speech Tuesday. He argued that the Inflation Reduction Act and other parts of President Joe Biden’s economic program support “a partnership that is an incredible advantage to both our nations,” which share the goal of breaking China’s dominance in key industries. Talking point: Answering questions following his address to the Canadian Club, Cohen said that where Canada and the United States disagree, it’s typically over tactics, not goals. The U.S. opposes Canada’s plan for its own digital-services tax on big online platforms but in the absence of an international agreement on one, Canada’s plan is “not crazy,” he said. Canada’s privacy-law reforms and the Online News Act affect U.S. firms, too, he said, but the two countries don’t have to agree on everything to move forward.
