Talking point: WeWork was the first big company to tell its employees what they could and couldn’t eat, saying in 2018 its 6,000 workers would no longer be served or reimbursed for meals containing poultry, pork or red meat. Going vegetarian was “one of the biggest things an individual can do to reduce their personal environmental impact,” it said, estimating the company’s changed habits would save over 15 million animals by 2023. Igloo made the same decision because many of its staff work remotely, meaning they often grab a lunch they can expense. “We’re not checking the bins,” Igloo director John Long told the BBC. “The important thing is that we want to treat everyone as a grown-up.”
