Talking point: Trump said on social media he “authorized a 90 day PAUSE, and a substantially lowered Reciprocal Tariff during this period, of 10%, also effective immediately.” He claimed 75 of the countries he has targeted have called his administration to negotiate trade deals—noting they had not “retaliated in any way, shape, or form.” Neither Canada nor Mexico were hit with reciprocal tariffs on April 2, so weren’t directly affected by Wednesday’s decision.
