The company confirmed to The Logic that it had made cuts, but declined to disclose how many workers or which departments were affected. Employees in business development, data, engineering and human resources shared posts on LinkedIn indicating that they had lost their jobs. (The Logic)
Talking point: Ada cut 78 workers in September 2022. In a note explaining that move, CEO Mike Murchison cited a slowdown in new business from smaller, digital-first brands. The layoff put Ada “in the position to remove our dependence on outside capital,” he wrote. On Thursday, a company spokesperson said in a statement that “the fundamentals of our business remain strong,” but the reduction in headcount will allow the firm to “weather the uncertain macroeconomic environment for as long as it may last.” Ada isn’t the only Canadian tech firm to make successive rounds of cuts of late, as public-market valuations drop while private-company fundraising and growth slow. Last month, Thinkific laid off 76 staff, its second major reduction in a year.
